“Law and legal order: values and principles in the context of global challenges of modernity”
In 2020 the VII BRICS Legal Forum is focused on the formation of a fair and democratic legal order based on the generally accepted principles and values. The issue is indeed relevant due to the constant changes in the sphere of law which, in their turn, lead to the changes of legal values. During the plenary session, experts will concentrate on the identification legal guidelines and fundamentals of legal education necessary to maintain the stability of legal systems and to enhance the legal cooperation among the BRICS Member States, particularly, in critical situations. The plenary discussion will set the directions for the further work of the Forum’s panel sessions in order to determine current forms and prospects for cooperation among the BRICS Member States.

In the environment of growing international tension, building the capacity for legal protection of national interests appears relevant. The prospective areas of cooperation within BRICS include: improvement of the quality of legal education and training of qualified legal personnel that meets the current requirements in terms of professional qualification (competence). Experts will discuss the mechanisms for developing human capacity in the legal sphere and creating social elevators for young lawyers.

“New paradigms of international commercial dispute resolution”
In the context of the development of economic relations between the BRICS Member States and emerging countries, the idea to establish the arbitration institutions administering cross-border disputes between business entities of such countries becomes more and more important. Such approach would help to increase confidence among parties to civil transactions in the mentioned institutions in the course of the disputes involving a foreign element of the BRICS Member States or emerging countries. The participants will discuss the legal regulation of arbitration (arbitration proceedings) in the five countries, as well as the creation of a dispute resolution mechanism common for the BRICS Member States. Regulation and cooperation in the sphere of mediation will be the subject of a separate discussion.
